CTV takes in Orphan Black

Canadian broadcaster CTV has picked up the rights to local sci-fi series Orphan Black.

The 10×60’ drama was first shown on Canadian specialty cable channel Space and features a young woman who assumes the identity of a dead stranger who is then caught up in the strange details of her life.

The Temple Street Productions show, which was created by Space in partnership with BBC America, will air on Bell Media’s CTV starting on August 16 at 21.00 – its first run on a major broadcast network.

A second season of Orphan Black was recently ordered by Space, which is part-owned by Bell Media and BBC America, with production due to begin in September.

Mike Cosentino, CTV’s senior VP of programming, said: “A timely CTV encore run will expose this remarkable Space original series to a whole new audience, creating more momentum and viewer appetite for season two on Space.”
