The CW eyes Canadian teen series

The CW is close to a deal with Canadian producer Epitome Pictures for its new series LA Complex, which could find a plum place on the US network’s summer schedule.

Ongoing discussions between The CW and Epitome could lead to a deal for the 6×60′ series in the coming weeks, according to a representative at the Toronto-based shop, which also produces the long-running Degrassi franchise.

US media reports suggest The CW may order an additional seven episodes to round out the first season, placing the series in its summer schedule.

The youth-aimed drama follows a gang of young performers – who live in the same apartment complex – as they struggle to make it big in Hollywood. It was created by Martin Gero, whose writing and showrunning credits include the Stargate series and HBO’s Bored to Death. He is also known in his native Canada for directing the button-pushing hit film Young People Fucking.

LA Complex will premiere next week on Canada’s CTV and its Much Music sibling. The CW has gone shopping in Canada before, when in 2010 it picked up the comedy 18 to Life.
