Creative Skillset launches UK Census

UK Government organisation Creative Skillset has launched its first industry-wide census since 2012 in order to address key issues such as diversity in TV.

The 2015 Creative Media Industries Census aims to provide a picture of the current state of the UK’s media industry, including a breakdown of key occupations, working patterns, gender and ethnicity.

TV production companies have been invited to fill in the census questionnaire online before Friday October 30.

The findings will be made freely available and will also inform government and industry policy, Creative Skillset said.

The last Census in 2012 revealed that the representation of black, Asian and minority ethnic people (BAME) had declined to 5% of the TV workforce, which generated a significant response from the BBC among others.

Alongside TV, the Census will also look at the animation, games, VFX, radio, film, digital media and cinema exhibition industries.
