Canadian channels operator Corus Entertainment will launch Cooking Channel in the country in December.

The move adds to the portfolio of Scripps Networks Interactive US cablenets being operated under licence by Corus north of the border.

Corus already airs Canadian versions of Food Network, HGTV and DIY Network and will add Cooking Channel to that from December 12 when it launches as a 24-hour network.

The channel will replace W Movies in Corus’s line-up, with series including Man Fire Food, Cake Hunters and Unique Sweets already confirmed for its opening schedules.

Scripps launched Cooking Channel in the US in 2010. President of international at Scripps Jim Samples said: “Cooking Channel is a complementary network to Food Network and a leading lifestyle brand in the US. Cooking Channel will satiate audiences’ growing hunger for more food lifestyle programming in Canada and fuel their passion and curiosity for cooking and entertainment.”

Barbara Williams, executive VP and chief operating officer at Corus, said: “As the interest in food content continues to grow, we see an opportunity to add the tremendously successful Cooking Channel brand to our portfolio.

“With Cooking Channel’s focus on serving those passionate about food and cooking, Food Network Canada will continue to bring Canadians dynamic new entertainment-driven, food-related programming.”

Corus also operates Canadian versions of W Network, Slice and Discovery’s OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
