CN renews five toons

Cartoon Network in the US has renewed two of its long-running original comedies, Adventure Time and Regular Show, whilst backing three of its more recent commissions.

The two comedy series, which follow the adventures of a young boy and his talking dog and a pair of slacker friends respectively, will both return to the network for seventh seasons. Both are produced by Cartoon Network Studios with Frederator Studios coproducing Adventure Time.

Cartoon Network has also ordered new episodes of Steven Universe, Uncle Grandpa and Clarence, which have all made their debuts on the channel in the past 12 months having originated out of its shorts initiative. All three are produced by Cartoon Network Studios, with Warner Bros International distributing Uncle Grandpa.

Earlier this year, Cartoon Network in Europe, the Middle East and Africa greenlit two more seasons of its buddy comedy The Amazing World of Gumball.

The network’s parent company, Turner Broadcasting System, also named Christina Miller as the new president and general manager of its animation channels earlier this month, following the departure of Stuart Snyder earlier this year.
