CMT loses Philips, adds Tanki

Frank Tanki is now general manager at CMT

Viacom has reshuffled the leadership team at its US cablenet CMT following the departure of long-standing president Brian Philips.

Frank Tanki, who was named general manager at Viacom sibling TV Land earlier this year, has taken up the same role at CMT after Philips stepped down from his position yesterday following 16 years with the channel. His next move is not yet known.

Tanki will be responsible for day-to-day operations at CMT, including programming, marketing & creative and communications, and will work closely with CMT’s development team to set the overall strategy for the brand.

He continues to report to Kevin Kay, president of Spike (soon to be renamed Paramount Network), TV Land and CMT, and will work from both the New York and Nashville offices.

Tanki, whose credits include Spike’s Lip Sync Battle and Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, said his focus “is to successfully navigate CMT through the changing media landscape and extend the power of the brand’s voice.”

In related news, Jayson Dinsmore, CMT’s exec VP of development and production, will now report to Keith Cox, who added responsibility for development at Paramount to his previous role as president of development and production at TV Land in February.

Viacom has been integrating operations across its brands since the appointment of Bob Bakish as CEO last year.
