City TV orders Canadian comedy

Canada’s City TV has greenlit a primetime sketch comedy series set in a fictional town and featuring an all-Canadian cast.

Sunnyside (6×30′) has been created by Gary Pearson (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) and Dan Redican (The Kids in the Hall) and will star Canadian comedic talent including Kathleen Phillips, Lauren Ash and Pat Thornton.

The series begins production in Winnipeg next month and will be coproduced by Toronto-based Counterfeit Pictures and Winnipeg-based Buffalo Gal Pictures.

The series is based on an unusual neighbourhood that is home to people from all walks of life, from hipsters and young professionals to yoga moms and romantic crooks.

The series will air mid-season on Rogers Broadcasting-owned City TV, with additional broadcast details to follow at a later date.
