Cisneros Media, owner of Venezuelan broadcaster Venevision, has linked up with US-based Part Time Hero Productions to develop an English-language comedy show for the US market.

[1]American Girl Trapped on a Telenovela is being developed to attract the growing US Hispanic market as well as the country’s general audience and will twist the traditional telenovela concept.

The show has been co-created by Part Time’s founder Jeff Sutphen, who hosts Nickelodeon’s quiz series BrainSurge and ABC’s 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show, and Stacy Sutphen.

It is being produced in association with Amistad Productions, founded by telenovela star Guy Ecker, and Robert Friedman’s fledgling prodco Bungalow Media and Entertainment, which agreed [2] a development partnership with Cisneros in January.

The series follows the life of a Brooklyn-based Puerto Rican actress who only speaks English but finds herself as the lead character on a Spanish-language telenovela.

The project will be overseen by Miguel Somoza, director of sales and business development at Miami-based Cisneros Media Distribution, which replaced [3] the sales arm of Venevision earlier in the year.
