Cineflix eyes French-Canadian adaptations

MIPCOM: Canadian producer and distributor Cineflix Media has launched an initiative to aid the adaptation of French-language content from Quebec-based producers for the English-speaking market.

In its first phase, Cineflix’s International Development Initiative for Quebec Content will invest C$750,000 (US$600,713) in a number of projects including scripted series and formats over the next two years.

The initiative will primarily focus on the adaptation and development of scripted series, but will also take factual content into consideration.

The programme is jointly funded by the Quebecor Fund, which contributes to the development of Canadian content production and is subsidised by Canadian company Quebecor Media’s cable outfit Vidéotron, and the Quebec government.

The money will be available to all Quebec producers, with the scheme dedicated to exploiting the success of existing French-language TV series by offering resources to accelerate development, production and distribution of English-language versions.

“Producers in Quebec are creating innovative and highly successful scripted and factual series for the Quebec market, which also have great untapped potential in the international market,” said Pablo Salzman, VP of commercial affairs at Cineflix Media.

“This initiative will help Quebec producers develop new revenue streams, break into new markets, and continue to build the ‘Made in Quebec’ brand on a global scale.”
