China’s iQiyi picks up BBC dramas

The Miniaturist launched on BBC1 in the UK

Chinese VoD service iQiyi has acquired BBC dramas Rellik and The Miniaturist from distributor All3Media International.

IQiyi has picked up exclusive streaming rights for 6×60’ crime thriller Rellik, which was produced by Two Brothers Pictures in the UK for BBC1 and Cinemax.

Period thriller The Miniaturist (3×60’) was coproduced by UK company The Forge and PBS’s Masterpiece strand in the US, in association with All3Media International and London-based Lemaise Pictures.

Written by Two Brothers’ Jack and Harry Williams, Rellik follows the hunt for a serial killer by telling the story in reverse. Last month, HBO Asia and Tele München picked up the series for their respective regions.

The show’s already been acquired by Israel’s Yes, Flemish pubcaster VRT and Dazzler Media, which has taken DVD/video rights in the UK and Ireland. These deals followed a separate agreement with HBO Europe unveiled earlier in the year.

The Miniaturist, which has previously been acquired by networks in Europe and Australia, tells the story of a house in Amsterdam whose lavish beauty and privilege covers dangerous secrets.
