China, US outfits sign trio of deals

NATPE: Jiangsu Broadcasting Corp (JSBC) in China and Sacramento-based Crossings TV have agreed to jointly establish and operate a Mandarin TV platform targeting Asian-Americans in the US.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Qiu Yuanyuan, president of the international commercial arm of JSBC, and Frank Washington, chairman and CEO of Crossings TV.

“Although we do primarily focus on cable at the moment, we have plans to offer both OTT and satellite delivery, as well as terrestrial broadcast, and we’re looking forward to being able to implement those plans within the next couple of years,” said Washington.

The deal was one of three signed by companies from China and the US at Natpe in Miami yesterday.

Chinese broadcaster Lead TV & Film and LA-based Hollywood China International Studio are set to coproduce historical drama Gone With the Ocean. The series tells the story of the early Chinese immigrants who came to the US during the Californian Gold Rush.

The third deal covered the feature film Love Changes the World, which will be coproduced by Datang Brilliant Media in China and LA-based international sales firm Arclight Films, which opened a Beijing office in 2013.
