Chilean net develops psychic power

A Chilean broadcaster has acquired Zodiak Rights-distributed paranormal-themed format Psychic Challenge.

Chilevision will launch its own 13×80’ season of the TeVe Media Group format in April, with production beginning next month. It is understood the show will be produced in-house under a local title.

Psychic Challenge takes the form of a nationwide search for people who claim to have precognitive abilities who are then tested in numerous ways. Zodiak struck a new five-year deal with TeVe for the format last year.

The Chilean deal marks the show’s first adaptation in Latin America, according to the sales arm of superindie Zodiak Media. TéVé originally created it for Holland’s RTL4. Local versions have been produced in 15 territories overall, including in the UK on Channel 5, the US on Lifetime Television) and Russia on TNT.

The news comes after Zodiak struck a five-year format distribution deal with Benelux-based TéVé last March. That followed a previous agreement the latter had with RDF Rights, which was part of UK-based production giant RDF Media, which Zodiak bought in 2010.

Zodiak has also closed finished episode deals in Latin America. A+E took 90-minute documentary Titanic – The Aftermath, BBC Worldwide bought factual series The Tube and Brazilian paycaster Globosat has acquired drama Braquo.

Yesterday, Zodiak announced a refinancing of its banking arrangements in local markets to bring everything under one roof in Paris, where it’s headquartered, plus new staff appointments and a tweak to its name.
