Chernin to partner Endeavor on drama

LA-based prodco Chernin Entertainment has teamed up with fellow US outfit Endeavor Content to create scripted drama series.

Chernin Entertainment will produce all the projects under the partnership, with newly created Endeavor Content handling international sales.

The collaboration will have substantial financial backing and will look to exploit the two companies’ extensive expertise to produce content for the global market, said Peter Chernin, CEO of The Chernin Group, and Chris Rice, Endeavor Content’s co-president.

“This is a new, leaner studio model with state-of-the-art distribution focused on today’s evolving global marketplace,” Chernin said. “The partnership with Endeavor Content will allow us to dedicate the bulk of our capital to championing artists and their creative vision.”

Rice said that Chernin’s track record “speaks for itself.”

“He is one of the most prolific content creators in our business, demonstrating time and again his ability to identify great stories that resonate with global audiences,” Rice added.

The announcement comes weeks after Endeavor Content’s formation, following the merger of WME and IMG’s film, scripted TV finance and sales arms by parent company Endeavor.

The move saw Rice and Graham Taylor, formerly global head of WME, become co-presidents.

The new outfit has brought on numerous experienced industry figures including Joe Hipps, from Ozark producer Media Rights Capital, as senior VP of television and Negeen Yazdi, from The Weinstein Company, as senior VP of film.

Endeavor Content is now the product of two groups which have financed, packaged and/or sold more than 100 films and TV shows in the past 12 months, including The Night Manager and The Young Pope.

Chernin, which produces Fox’s longest-running live-action comedy New Girl, ramped up its TV operations in the last year through the appointment of Kristen Campo, formerly of LA prodco Fabrik Entertainment, as exec VP of television.
