Channel 4 listens to the music

Channel 4 in the UK has commissioned four series that aim to appeal to fans of different musical genres, including a show that previously aired on Sky.

World’s Greatest Songwriters (working title) is a 10-part series from Jolygood TV that promises to star an eclectic mix of music icons discussing the stories behind their greatest hits.

The series previously aired on pay TV channel Sky Arts under the title Songbook and featured guests including Phil Collins and The Kinks’ frontman Ray Davies.

Six-part series Blink, meanwhile, is a music quiz show from Zig Zag Productions that sees celebrities go head to head to test both their reflexes and music knowledge.

Contestants will be tested on their knowledge of music videos, songs and the stars that perform them, but will only have a fraction of a second of a clip to go on.

Elsewhere, Best Before (6×30′) is a collaboration with the broadcaster’s catch-up service All4 that will curate and promote new musical releases from the last 30 days, available both on demand and on TV. It will be produced by London-based Somethin’ Else.

Finally, 90-minute one-off doc The 80s: Ten Years We Love to Hate (working title) will explore the music and pop culture during one of Britain’s most divisive decades. It will be produced by London-based Nerd TV.
