Channel 4 boards Night Bus

UK broadcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a three-part documentary series about the world of night buses in London.

The Night Bus (3×60’), from UK-based factual producer Blast Films!, will used fix-rig camera technology to capture the comings and going of passengers travelling on the capital’s night buses, from tourists to late-night shift workers leaving home at first light.

The first bus to have the rig installed before Christmas will be on a route from the north London suburb of Enfield passing through Camden and into the heart of the capital from Tottenham Court Road to Leicester Square, ending at Trafalgar Square.

The vehicle will be fitted inside and out with 16 cameras covering the driver and passengers on both decks.

The series, which airs in 2015, is being made with the support of Transport for London, and is produced and directed by Jackie Waldock. David Hodgkinson is exec producing for Blast!

Documentaries commissioning editor Emma Cooper said: “We’ll capture the vast scale of the night bus’s operations, and the breadth and number of Londoners that it caters for.

“With warmth and humour the series will focus on the stories passengers bring on board and their interactions with one another and the drivers in this snapshot of late night London life.”
