CEE set for OTT revenue surge

Eastern European OTT television and video revenues are set to rocket from around US$450m last year to almost US$2bn in 2021, according to a new report.

Poland is expected to be a particular growth market, with the country’s OTT and video sectors predicted to bring in an additional US$220m compared with current levels by 2021, according to the report from Digital TV Research.

The Eastern Europe OTT TV and Video Forecasts report predicts that total revenues across the region will reach US$1.98bn in 2021, up from US$26m in 2010 and US$454m in 2015.

Russia accounted for half the region’s OTT revenues in 2015 and will remain at around this level for the next five years, accounting for around US$700m of the extra US$1.5bn revenue in 2016.

Simon Murray, principal analyst, said that the Eastern European OTT TV and video sector “is more immature than most of the rest of the world” but that the region “will still have lots of room for growth after 2021.”

SVoD will become the region’s largest OTT revenue source in 2016, while subscription service revenues will total US$1.14bn by 2021, up from US$4m in 2010.
