CBS renews Zoo, reboots MacGyver

CBS in the US has renewed drama series Zoo for a second season as well as commissioning a remake of classic action series MacGyver and a comedy pilot from Tina Fey.

Zoo’s second run has been slated for 2016, continuing the story from James Patterson’s bestseller about a wave of violent animal attacks against humans across the planet.

Produced by CBS Television studios and distributed globally by CBS Studios International, the show joins comic thriller BrainDead and the latest edition of reality hit Big Brother on the channel’s slate for summer 2016.

Meanwhile, the network is working on a remake of 1980s classic MacGyver, which aired for 139 episodes across seven seasons on ABC from 1985 to 1992.

The show focuses on a secret agent who uses his resourcefulness to solve complex problems by crafting tools out of everyday objects. The original executive producer Henry Winkler is on board for the new version.

Finally, CBS is lining up an unnamed comedy series from 30 Rock trio Tina Fey, Jack Burditt and Robert Carlock. The script focuses on an athlete who becomes unbearable to his nearest and dearest after being forced to retire. Universal TV and 3 Arts are producing.
