CBS Reality signs off Written in Blood

CBS Reality in the UK has ordered a 10-part show that features top British crime writers discussing the real-life cases that inspired their work.

Simon Toyne

Written in Blood (10×60′) is being produced by Endemol Shine North and will delve into a different criminal case each week using reconstructions, real-life footage and interviews with police, family members and witnesses.

Bestselling thriller writer Simon Toyne, author of The Boy Who Saw and other titles, will front the show, meeting other UK crime writers to discuss how their works of fiction have been inspired by real crimes.

A podcast for the show, which will air in autumn, will feature additional, in-depth conversation about each case.

Sam Rowden, director of programming at CBS Reality and executive producer on the programme, said: “Our audience consumes crime across all media, so we were keen to bring the world of crime books on screen and investigate how literature is so often inspired by the true crimes the CBS Reality audience loves to watch.”

CBS Reality claims to be the biggest factual entertainment channel in the UK among adult women. It is owned by AMC Networks International – UK and CBS Studios International and has an originals slate that includes Murderers and Their Mothers, Killer Clergy and The Jury Room.

It kicked off its original commissions in 2015 with true-crime series Donal MacIntyre: Unsolved.
