CBS finds Salvation

US network CBS has ordered a 13-part summer event series from Alex Kutzman, the executive producer behind the new Star Trek TV series.

Salvation follows an MIT grad student who discovers that an asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth.

The 13×60’ series, based on a story by Matt Wheeler, has been penned by Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro. It will launch in summer 2017.

Kruger and Shapiro will executive produce with Kurtzman, Heather Kadin and Peter Lenkov. Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout will produce with CBS Television Studios, where he has an overall deal.

CBS Television Distribution will handle domestic distribution, with CBS Studios International controlling worldwide distribution.

This week, CBS cancelled summer dramas BrainDead and American Gothic.

Kurtzman is behind the CBS Star Trek reboot, which has been picked up by Netflix.
