CBS cooks up Friday Night Dinner

US network CBS has picked up rights for a local adaptation of UK comedy series Friday Night Dinner.

The broadcaster has ordered a pilot adaptation of the Channel 4 series, which was produced by UK indie Big Talk Productions, with original creator Robert Popper penning the US version.

The project will hail from Warner Bros Television, 3 Arts Entertainment, Big Talk and Poppers Pictures.

Friday Night Dinner, starring Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal and Tamsin Greig, is about a weekly dinner attended by a Jewish family.

NBC previously tried to remake the comedy in 2012 with The Office (US) creator Greg Daniels attached.

Big Talk Productions was founded by Nira Park in 1995 and counts Simon Pegg and Nick Frost among its talent. The prodco produced hit feature films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, which both starred the duo.
