The CBeebies app will initially launch in Mexico on May 5 and will then expand into the rest of Latin America, including Brazil, with content dubbed into Portuguese, and the US Hispanic market.

The app will offer complete episodes of children’s programmes such as Charlie & Lola, Sarah & Duck and The Numtums to stream in Spanish on mobile devices, along with educational games and parenting information for adults.

Over time, more new episodes and series dubbed into Spanish will be added to the app. BBCWW also promises that the app will provide “a secure digital environment” to watch the series and that it “complements the network’s current TV offering.”

Developed by Sao Paulo-based Playground Serious Fun, it will be available on iOS and Android systems with a seven-day free trial. Subscription fees will vary by country.

“Our new app enables us to expand the CBeebies experience beyond the TV screen to a new generation of viewers, providing them with access to their favourite content at their convenience,” said Fred Medina, executive VP and MD at BBCWW Latin America and US Hispanic.
