CBC orders 10 originals

CBC in Canada has ordered 10 original productions for its 2015/16 schedule, including factual shows, single-camera comedies and a drama from showrunner Chris Haddock.

The Romeo Section (10×60′) is a Vancouver-set espionage thriller that centres on a veteran agent who sets out to recruit a high-value informant. It is being produced by Haddock’s prodco Haddock Entertainment and will air in the fall.

The Canuck broadcaster will also air Shoot The Messenger (8×60′), from Hungry Eyes Entertainment, which follows a young journalist who becomes embroiled in gang warfare and political manoeuvring, and Sphère Média Plus-produced New Address.

The 10×60′ series is an English-language adaptation of Radio-Canada series Nouvelle Adresse. It joins returning series such as Heartland, from Seven24 Films and Dynamo Films, and X Company, from Flashbang Productions, Temple Street Productions and Ostar Enterprises.

Meanwhile, on the comedy front, CBC has ordered Kim’s Convenience from Thunderbird Films and Soulpepper Theatre. The 13×30′ series is an adaptation of Ins Choi’s Canadian play, which features a patriarch struggling with changes within his business.

CBC’s schedule will also include sketch show Baroness Von Sketch (6×30′), from Frantic Films, and Young Drunk Punk (13×30′), from Accent Entertainment and Seven24 Films, about two graduates as they set out on a mission of self-discovery.

Rhombus Media-produced Michael: Tuesdays & Thursday and Mr D, from Topsail Productions & Gerard ADHD Entertainment, is amongst other comedies returning. Factual shows including healthcare-focused Keeping Canada Alive, from Force Four Productions, and airport-set Hello Goodbye, from Pivotal Media, have also been ordered.
