Schitt’s Creek has been given a third run

Canadian broadcaster CBC has extended its comedy roster by ordering new seasons of shows including Schitt’s Creek and Mr D.

Eugene Levy comedy Schitt’s Creek is from Toronto’s Not A Real Company Productions and is about a wealthy video store magnate forced to relocate his family to a small town he once bought. The third run will air in 2017.

CBC has also ordered a sixth season of teaching comedy Mr D, coproduced by Canuck duo Topsail Productions and Gerard ADHD Entertainment in association with CBC, and a 24th run of DHX Media’s satirical series This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

Also on the slate is topical show Rick Mercer Report, which is into its 14th run and comes from Island Edge Inc, with all four originals currently airing back-to-back on Tuesday nights.

Sally Catto, general manager of programming at CBC Television, said: “While each [show] is unique and brings its own distinct humour, together they have made Tuesdays on CBC a destination comedy night for Canadians from coast to coast.”
