CBBC explores cinema with Sheen

CBBC in the UK has commissioned a factual entertainment series aimed at young cinema fans that features contributions from stars such as Michael Sheen, Ron Howard and Sir Ian McKellen.

Cinemaniacs (8×30′), produced by UK-based prodco Novel Entertainment, is aimed at children aged 6-12 and looks at all aspects of film from a humorous and off-beat angle.

Associate producer Sheen (The Queen) will feature in each episode, while industry talent from both sides of the camera will contribute their own funny stories and advice on getting started in filmmaking.

Julian Kemp, the show’s director, said: “For a long time, Michael Sheen and I have wanted to make a series that celebrates movies and movie making. With Cinemaniacs, we have set out to do exactly that.”

Earlier this month the UK government confirmed that a tax break for the production of UK children’s live-action television is to be introduced next year on April 1.
