Catalyst to record Cuckoo Song

UK-based financing and production outfit Catalyst Global Media is developing a miniseries based on a novel for young adults set in 1920s England.

Cuckoo Song, written by Frances Hardinge, will be turned into a 4×60′ series by film and TV firm Catalyst, which is run by co-founder and CEO Charlotte Walls.

The fantasy drama follows a young girl attempting to repair a broken family still haunted by the events of the First World War after she discovers a magical folklore world.

“This story has universal themes that will resonate with children and parents of all ages and make for a great communal viewing experience,” said Walls.

The option for Cuckoo Song was negotiated by Emily Hayward Whitlock at The Artists Partnership, in association with Nancy Miles at the Miles Stott Children’s Literary Agency.

Since launching in 2015 Catalyst has put together a slate of TV projects that includes eight-part crime thriller Cognition, from Hollywood director John Woo (Face/Off, Mission Impossible II).

The firm recently hired development executive Chris Farrer, formerly of Carnival Films, and development and production coordinator Emily Barttelot of Ecosse Films.
