Cartoonito arrives in Spain

Turner Broadcasting System’s (TBS) preschool net Cartoonito will launch in Spain this year.

The pay-TV channel will replace stablemate Boomerang in the region on September 1, launching on Prisa TV’s Digital+, Ono, Telefónica Movistar Imagenio, Orange TV, R and Euskaltel.

The launch will feature the debut of Spanish-produced toon Jelly Jamm, from indies Vodka Capital and 727 Shaker and pubcaster RTVE; and Australia’s Bananas in Pyjamas, from Southern Star Entertainment in association with pubcaster ABC.

Cartoonito Spain will also broadcast shows such as Baby Looney Tunes, My Little Pony and Sam Sam.

The launch is an extension on TBS’s plan to offer Cartoonito as a branded programming block on Boomerang channel feeds throughout EMEA. C21 first revealed the plans in August last year.

The Cartoonito brand first launched in the UK in 2007 and is now in 112 territories and 125 million homes. The Spanish launch will increase its reach by a further 2.6 million.
