Cartoon Network lines up new sitcom for January

Cartoon Network UK has given a tx slot for its upcoming animated sitcom Spaced Out, a co-production involving French and Hong Kong animators and several Euro broadcasters.

The 26×26' 2D toon will unspool at 18:30 every weekday from 7 January 2002, wedged between Tom & Jerry and new episodes of The Powerpuff Girls at 19:00.

In production till December, Spaced Out is a co-production between Alphanim, Canal Plus, Les Productions Tooncan, in association with Animation Enterprises HK.

It follows the plight of a family who has been taken off to a space station to be used as guinea pigs by an evil technology conglomerate. The show was created by Leon Noel and Claude Lerist, and is directed by Marc Perret.

Spaced Out has also been pre-sold to France3, Cartoon Network France and Canal Famille.

The UK channel is also preparing to unveil its new acquisition, Cubix for a February launch. A spokeswoman for the channel hinted at a possible 10:30 slot for the cgi show, distributed by Lacey Entertainment.
