A Canadian broadcaster has acquired forthcoming USA Network drama series Shooter from Paramount Television.

Québec channels operator Quebecor Content has taken the show, which is due to begin airing in the US next month having had its premiere pushed back numerous times due to real-life events.

The show, a TV adaptation of the 2007 movie of the same name, stars Ryan Phillippe as a US Army-trained sniper who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president.

Based on Stephen Hunter’s novel Point of Impact, the small-screen adaptation is from Paramount TV, which made the film, Universal Cable Productions, Closest to the Hole Productions and Leverage Entertainment.

“This gripping series has everything our audiences look for: great acting, superb production values and a compelling, binge-worthy story,” Yann Paquet, VP of acquisitions and partnerships at Quebecor Content.
