Canal+ adapts Vernon Subutex

French pay TV operator Canal+ has ordered a TV adaptation of a series of novels by Virginie Despentes.

Vernon Subutex (9×30′) will based on the novels by Despentes, which follow the life of a famous record store owner who is forced to shut his shop and move in with friends.

The series is being produced by ITV-owned Tetra Media Studio and fellow French outfit 27.11 Production. Juliette Favreul Renaud and Estelle Sanson will produce for 27.11 Production, while Emmanuel Daucé is attached for Tetra Media’s Fiction arm.

The show, slated to debut next spring, is being written by Cathy Verney and Benjamin Dupas, with French actor Romain Duris set to star as Vernon Subutex.

The Vernon Subutex series is made up of three novels. The first was published in 2015, the second was released later that year and the third in May 2017.
