C5 lands Arrow’s Flights from Hell

Arrow is linking with Drive for Flights from Hell

UK broadcaster Channel 5 has commissioned a six-part series on aviation disasters from factual specialist Arrow Media.

Flights from Hell (6×60’) reveals what it’s like to live through catastrophic events onboard an aircraft. The series mixes first-hand footage and testimony from passengers to give viewers a near-personal idea of the horror experienced during a plane disaster.

The individually themed episodes will include the story of a small passenger aircraft that ditched off the coast of Hawaii, leading to an attempt to survive in shark-infested waters, and a mistake in the cockpit which caused an airliner to crash-land and slide down the runway for more than 2,000 feet.

Arrow has linked up with UK distributor and financer Drive to secure a number of international pre-sales to co-fund the series, including with Nine Network in Australia. It is the first collaboration between the two companies.

“This series is a great addition to Arrow’s slate of factual entertainment shows and is part of our growing portfolio of programming for Channel 5,” said Tom Brisley, joint creative director at Arrow.

“Arrow have been at the forefront of aviation-related programming for many years, so when a number of our international clients indicated to us that they were interested in a series of this nature, we knew they would be the right partner,” said Ben Barrett, joint MD of Drive.

The series is exec produced by Ash Potterson and series produced by Stuart Strickson. It follows on from Arrow’s recent round of commissions, which included two true crime orders from Discovery’s US cablenet Investigation Discovery.
