C5 explores Mercury, Carpenter deaths

UK broadcaster Channel 5 will explore the deaths of musicians Freddie Mercury and Karen Carpenter in two feature-length drama documentaries from ITV Studios label Potato.

Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender Revealed (1×120’) and Karen Carpenter: Goodbye To Love (1×120’) will uncover the truth behind the loss of the two cultural icons, who performed separately throughout their careers.

The docs will use extensive scripted dramatisation based on first-hand accounts, rarely seen archive footage and interviews.

The commissions follow Potato’s 2015 feature-length factual drama Whitney & Bobby: Addicted To Love. Both projects were commissioned by Guy Davies, factual commissioning editor of C5 Ed Taylor and Michael Kelpie are executive producers.
