C4 takes on Zombies with Wheatley

Channel 4 in the UK has commissioned a six-part zombie satire about the generational divide written and directed by Ben Wheatley (High Rise).

Ben Wheatley

Generation Z (6×60’) is a black comedy which sees baby boomers and disaffected teenagers at each others’ throats after a military convoy containing a toxic substance crashes outside a retirement home, infecting residents who start to crave human flesh.

The series features a group of wide-eyed teenagers caught up in a future far more terrifying than anything they could have expected.

Generation Z is produced by The Forge, the company founded in 2014 by Company Pictures co-founder George Faber, and will go into production in 2020.

Wheatley will write, direct and executive produce the series alongside exec producers Mark Pybus and George Faber. It was ordered by Caroline Hollick, Channel 4’s head of drama, and commissioning editor Lee Mason.

All3Media International will handle global sales.

The Forge has previously produced Channel 4 dramas National Treasure and Hulu, both coproductions with US streamer Hulu, and Royal Television Society award-nominated returning series Ackley Bridge.
