C4 preps Hebrew drama first

Beauty and the Baker

Beauty and the Baker

Channel 4 is set to become the first UK terrestrial broadcaster to air a Hebrew-language drama after picking up an Israeli romcom from Keshet International.

The first episode of Beauty and the Baker will air on Channel 4 later this month, representing another first for the broadcaster following June’s airing of Polish drama The Border.

Beauty and the Baker was part of a package picked up from Keshet earlier this year for Channel 4’s foreign-language VoD service Walter Presents. Its first 10×30’ season will be made available on the platform after airing on C4.

Produced by Endemol Israel for Keshet Broadcasting and created by Assi Azar, Beauty and the Baker is one of Israel’s highest-rating homegrown dramas and was recently recommissioned for a second season.

It tells the story of Noa Hollander, one of the richest and most beautiful women in Israel, and her romance with a baker who still lives at home with his parents in a cramped apartment in a Tel Aviv suburb.

Russian broadcaster CTC Media ordered a local version of the series last year, following in the footsteps of ANT1 in Greece and Net5 in the Netherlands.
