GEITF: UK broadcaster Channel 4 (C4) has commissioned another extreme exploration series with adventurer Levison Wood, as well as a new comedy series starring Olivia Colman.

Walking the Himalayas is being produced by London prodco October Films, with GroupM Entertainment, and will follow Wood as he treks across Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal.

It will feature footage shot by Levison himself and has been slated for broadcast in early 2016. Wood previously walked the full length of the River Nile for a coproduction between C4 and Animal Planet in the US.

The show, Walking the Nile, was later picked up by Discovery in CEMA, Network Nine in Australia and Choice TV in New Zealand, among others.

C4 has also greenlit Flowers, a new dark comedy from Bafta-nominated writer and director Will Sharpe.

The six-parter, produced by Kudos and starring Olivia Colman (Peep Show) and Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), is being made in association with NBCUniversal’s new comedy-focused subscription VoD platform.

The show features a dysfunctional family struggling to stay together and is due to air in 2016.

In other news, C4 has also ordered an animated Christmas special adapted from the classic illustrated children’s book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

The book, written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, recently celebrated 25 years as an international bestseller and is published by Walker Books.

The 30-minute special will be produced by Lupus Films, the UK prodco behind the popular C4 special The Snowman and the Snowdog, which drew an audience of more than 11 million when it aired in 2012.
