C4 names entertainment commissioner

Channel 4 in the UK has appointed an exec producer of Sky1 panel show Duck Quacks Don’t Echo as its commissioning editor for entertainment.

Karen Murdoch has worked for UK producers including Magnum Media, Zeppotron, Objective and Princess Productions and was behind C4 quizzer 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and BBC1’s Would I Lie to You?.

She reports to C4 head of entertainment and TV events Ed Havard, whose team includes commissioning editor Syeda Irtizaali and commissioning executive Antonia Howard Taylor.

“Karen has had huge experience and success in production and has worked with many of the best entertainment indies. She is also a hugely popular figure and we’re incredibly excited that she has joined the team,” said Havard, who added entertainment to his remit earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Tom Beck has been upped to head of live events at C4, overseeing shows such as The Crystal Maze and Stand Up to Cancer. He also remains a commissioning editor for entertainment.

Last week C4 appointed a producer of hit sitcom Catastrophe as a commissioning editor at its comedy department as part of an ongoing restructuring.
