BT lines up Game of Thrones

BT TV in the UK has signed a deal with HBO Home Entertainment that allows customers to download and keep shows including Game of Thrones.

The pay TV service’s customers will be able to acquire the first four seasons of the fantasy series (with season five to follow), the complete box set of Entourage and the first season of crime drama True Detective.

Further HBO programmes will be added throughout the year.

European satcaster Sky has had exclusive rights to air most of HBO’s shows in the UK, including Game of Thrones, on its channel Sky Atlantic.

The news again shows how BT is attempting challenge Sky’s dominance of the UK market. It recently committed £960m (US$1.5m) to English Premier League football rights.

All episodes can be viewed on BT TV’s set-top boxes and are automatically available for customers to watch on their smartphones, tablets or PCs.
