BT brings Terror to YouTube

The Terror will be released on YouTube in the UK before airing on AMC

UK telco and pay TV provider BT will release the first episode of thriller series The Terror on YouTube for free ahead of its TV premiere on AMC the same day.

The Terror is a joint production between Scott Free, Entertainment 360, Emjag and AMC Studios. Ridley Scott is executive producing and the showrunners are David Kajganich and Soo Hugh.

The 10×45’ horror drama series will debut on YouTube on April 24 and air on AMC, which is carried on BT’s pay platform, at 21.00 the same day.

It follows the attempts by the Royal Navy to discover the Northwest Passage, as the crews of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror deal with bad weather, dwindling resources and fear of the unknown. It stars Jared Harris (The Crown), Tobias Menzies (Outlander) and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones).

No other show in the UK has been launched on YouTube before it has broadcast on TV but global streaming service Amazon has experimented with a similar roll-out in the US.

Amazon made the first episode of its comedy series The Marvelous Mrs Maisel available on YouTube, but only three weeks after it had debuted on the service.

BT has previously experimented with making some of its live sport available for free via different platforms, including broadcasts of football’s Champions League and Europa League soccer finals.
