Phil Edgar-Jones, who was most recently BSkyB’s head of entertainment, takes up the role and replaces Hunt, who left after four-and-a-half-years with the pay TV broadcaster.

Edgar-Jones has been behind a host of shows in his previous role including Portrait Artist of the Year, Parkinson’s Masterclasses, Talks Music and the upcoming Elaine Paige Show. He has also overseen a number of entertainment properties across the Sky portfolio, including Got To Dance and A League of Their Own.

In his new post, he will report to Stuart Murphy, director of entertainment at Sky.

Edgar-Jones will join Adam MacDonald, director at Sky 1; Antonia Hurford-Jones, director at Sky Living; Julia Barry, director at Sky Atlantic; and Stephen Ladlow, director at Pick TV and Challenge – all of whom report Murphy.

Murphy said Edgar-Jones’ “in depth knowledge of making TV of scale and infectious energy, production experience and passion for the arts” would ensure the channel’s future success.

Before joining Sky, Edgar-Jones was creative director at production outfit Endemol, where he worked on shows including Art School, Space Cadets and Shattered, as well as all 10 seasons of the original Big Brother.

He will continue to keep a ‘watching brief’ over entertainment commissioning for Sky until a replacement is found, and replaces Hunt, who had been director at Sky Arts since 2011.
