Brownstone founder joins The Cartel

US-based production and management company The Cartel has hired the former president of Brownstone Entertainment and Fascination Street to oversee its development slate.

Drew Brown

Drew Brown has been named as head of television at the company and takes up the post, based in Los Angeles, immediately.

Having started his career as a producer on reality series Project Runway, Brown built up Brownstone Entertainment by making series including Barter Kings for A&E, Funny Girls for Oxygen, Eat Drink Love for Bravo and Living in Secret for Lifetime Movie Network.

In 2016, he entered the scripted market under a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television via his other venture, Fascination Street.

Brown has also collaborated with Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorian Productions and separately with America Ferrera and Teri Weinberg’s production outfit to develop two scripted projects that were sold recently to NBCUniversal.

He developed and sold scripted drama and comedy projects to broadcast, cable and streaming platforms with other notable partners such as Mila Kunis’s Orchard Farms, Viola Davis and Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions, Aaron Paul’s Lucid Road and Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films.

“Since first working with Drew we knew that we were like-minded,” said Stan Spry, co-CEO of The Cartel. “He’s hard working, driven and has tremendous instincts. He created two very successful companies on his own and we are thrilled that he is bringing his skills, projects and relationships to the Cartel.”

In January, The Cartel hired Matthew Ellis, 17-year entertainment industry veteran from The Metropolis Agency.
