Brazilian toons head to Croisette

New fare coming out of Brazil’s burgeoning animation industry for Mipcom include a trio of new series from TV PinGuim and new titles from Mixer.

Brazil is becoming a new animation powerhouse after local production quotas and tax-break schemes were introduced over the past few years. Thirty-five companies are expected at the Brazilian TV Producers Association (BTVP) stand including TV PinGuim, Mixer, 2DLab, 44 Toons, Medialand, Synapse and Cinema Animdores.

TV PinGuim will debut Earth to Luna! (52×11′), a new science-based show for 3-6s co-developed with Josh Selig (Little Airplane Productions) and Melinda Richards. It’s already been pre-bought by Discovery Kids Latin America and TV Brazil, and TV PinGuim is seeking copro partners.

Gemini 8 (52×11′), meanwhile, is a sci-fi action adventure series for boys aged 6-10. It follows a young boy who is transported to a distant planet where he strikes up a friendship with an alien. Webisodes are currently in production, while the TV show is in development.

TV PinGuim is also launching season two of preschool toon Fishtronaut, which it coproduces with Discovery Kids Latin America and Canada’s Vivavision. The first season broadcasts in more than 70 territories including Canada, the US and Korea.

Fellow São Paulo prodco Mixer will showcase a slate that includes Julie & Os Fantasmas, soccer-themed Brilhante FC and Escola Pra Cachorro (Doggy Day School), which broadcasts on Nickelodeon Brazil.

Meanwhile, Rio de Janeiro-based 2DLab is also seeking to expand its My Big Big Friend toon, which airs on Discovery Kids Latin America, into licensing and merchandising.
