Brazil gets cooking with MasterChef

Sao Paulo-based broadcaster Bandeirantes is moving ahead with its own version of MasterChef after licensing rights from Shine International.

Pre-production and casting will get underway in the coming weeks ahead of a primetime debut for the culinary format, which has already been picked up in three other Latin American countries.

The Bandeirantes (aka Band) version will be produced by Warner Bros-owned Eyeworks.

“This popular, international format unites two Brazilian passions: cuisine and the thrill of competition,” said Bandeirantes Networks content director Diego Guebel.

MasterChef is currently airing in more than 200 territories worldwide, according to Shine, which is in the midst of a potential alliance with American Idol owner Core Media Group and Endemol.

America TV in Peru, Tlese in Argentina and Channel 13 in Chile are the other Lat Am nets that have embarked on their own remakes.
