Blues Brothers get animated

Original cult classic The Blues Brothers

An animated comedy series based on classic movie The Blues Brothers is in the works with Dan Aykroyd, Judy Belushi and the prodco behind Bob’s Burgers onboard.

The project comes from co-creators and executive producers Aykroyd, Judy Belushi, widow of Aykroyd’s co-star in the 1980 film John Belushi, and Saturday Night Live writer Anne Beatts.

Bento Box Entertainment will develop and produce the series and will begin shopping it to television platforms this month.

The series chronicles the music, mayhem and comedy adventures of Jake and Elwood Blues, along with the members of their blues band.

Each episode will feature a score and soundtrack of soul, blues and R&B classics.

The series will also feature special guest appearances from “aspiring talent, treasured blues legends and superstars from today’s music world,” the producers said.

Bento Box’s Scott Greenberg and Joel Kuwahara will also executive producer, alongside Rehab Entertainment’s John W Hyde and Blues Brothers’ manager Eric Gardner.

The show will see the brothers using new technology to make and promote their own records, seeking out and recording new artists and avoiding law enforcement – “and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich,” said Aykroyd.
