‘Black Netflix’ launches in US

African-American network Bounce TV has launched a subscription VoD service featuring an extensive library of iconic black movies, such as Shaft, Super Fly and The Mack.

Brown Sugar is now available in the US for mobile phones and tablets in the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store at a cost of US$3.99 per month after a free trial period.

The commercial-free service has licensed feature films from Hollywood studios including Foxy Brown, Three The Hard Way, Black Caesar, Cleopatra Jones, The Black Godfather, Blacula and Car Wash.

“Brown Sugar is just like Netflix, only blacker. These movies are entertaining and fun, but they were also empowering to the black community as they depicted African Americans as strong leading characters and heroes for the first time,” said Pam Grier, star of Foxy Brown and an official ambassador for Brown Sugar.
