The first two seasons of Babylon Berlin are being produced at the same time

German producer and distributor Beta Film has secured further sales for drama Babylon Berlin and has picked up the second season of Big Light Productions’ Medici: Masters of Florence.

Groupe AB in France, HBO Europe and Viasat in Russia have become the latest international broadcasters to pick up Babylon Berlin, extending its presence into 60 territories.

The spy drama is from writers Tom Tykwer, Achim von Borries and Henk Handloegten.

Produced by X Filme, ARD Degeto, Sky and Beta Film, it stars Volker Bruch (Generation War) and Liv Lisa Fries (The Wave).

Babylon Berlin will debut on Sky Germany tomorrow before rolling out in numerous European territories. ARD and other linear broadcasters worldwide will air the show next year.

Munich-based Beta has also secured international distribution rights to Medici: Masters of Florence – The Magnificent.

Produced by Lux Vide in collaboration with Rai Fiction, Altice Group and Frank Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions for Italian pubcaster Rai, the eight-hour second season is currently being shot in Tuscany and Rome.

It stars Daniel Sharman (Teen Wolf, Fear the Walking Dead), Bradley James (Homeland, Merlin) and Sean Bean (Game of Thrones).

Sharman and Spotnitz will join Lux Vide’s Luca Bernabei, Beta Film’s Jan Mojto and Rai Fiction director Eleonora Andreatta to present the first images of the show at Mipcom in Cannes next week.
