Beta boards France 2 Hugo drama

MIPTV: German distributor Beta Film has acquired worldwide rights to the French miniseries drama Victor Hugo – Enemy of the State.

The 4×60′ show (known locally as Victor Hugo – Ennemi d’État) is being produced for France 2 by The Untouchables producer Quad and directed by Jean-Marc Moutout (The Bureau).

Filming is underway at locations across France, with Beta selling the show for the first time at MipTV, which starts tomorrow.

Actors attached include Yannick Choirat (Mr Morgan’s Last Love) and Isabelle Carré (Romantics Anonymous), while Iris Bucher produces for Quad alongside Luc Martin-Gousset for French prodco Point du Jour.

The show follows the life of the author of the Les Misérables novel, exploring his private life and his political beliefs.

Moutout said he will “show gradual change in Victor Hugo’s awareness and commitment, plunging into the heart of this era and the life of this great man. Both are intimately linked, since Hugo abandons literature for the political fight.”
