Broadcast group Bell Media has become the new Canadian home for Vice Media content, agreeing a deal that initially includes 650 hours to air on its TV, mobile and digital platforms.

The long-term agreement will see Bell Media become the exclusive Canadian broadcast home for new original programming from Vice’s US cablenet Viceland as well as hundreds of hours of library content.

Viceland ceased to operate as a linear channel in Canada just two years after it had launched when a previous partnership with Bell’s rival Rogers Media was terminated in January.

Following the deal, Vice has now also appointed Naveen Prasad, former executive VP and general manager of Elevation Pictures, as president of Vice Canada.

New Vice programming, such as the forthcoming The Hunt For The Trump Tapes With Tom Arnold and Munchies Guide To…, will air on Bell’s linear channels and streaming service CraveTV from the autumn.

TV, digital and SVoD rights have also been acquired to library content including episodes of Gaycation, Most Expensivest and King of the Road.

Bell-owned The Movie Network (TMN) has also commissioned a sequel to acclaimed Vice documentary Dopesick, titled Dopesick2: The Future of Addiction.

SnackableTV, Bell’s new shortform video app, will become home to Vice videos such as Smoke Show and Teenage Exorcists.

Bell had previously showcased Vice programming on HBO Canada, including documentary series Vice and week-night series Vice News Tonight, both Emmy winners. Vice special reports like A World in Disarray are available on HBO Canada On Demand.
