Three independent Belgian television production houses have jointly established a new production company called Fabiola in the Netherlands.

Woestijnvis, Lecter Media and De Mensen, all from the Flemish part of Belgium, have launched the company, which will develop its own programmes for the Dutch market and also exclusively produce the three producers’ formats in the Netherlands.

Based in Amsterdam, Fabiola will be headed by Robert van den Bogaard, co-founder of Dutch production group Eyeworks, and Pieter van Eekelen, creative director of Eyeworks International, and supported by the creative teams from the three Belgian companies.

Van den Bogaard said he was looking forward to collaborating with the teams of Woestijnvis, Lecter Media and De Mensen in the new venture. “For many years now Belgium has had an especially creative television market that is clearly different from other European countries,” he said.

“That we are now able, one year after the foundation of Lecter Media, to bundle the forces with the two most creative and largest production companies in Belgium – Woestijnvis and De Mensen – is really unique.”

De Mensen and Woestijnvis are the two largest producers in Belgium, and have produced numerous formats for Dutch audiences, including formats such as The Smartest Person in the World, Hotel Romantiek and The Viewer of the Year. They will add their strength to fledgling Lecter Media, which was established last year.
