Belgian, Dutch nets elect to air Borgen

MIPTV: Broadcasters in Belgium and the Netherlands have become the latest to acquire political drama Borgen from the sales arm of Danish public broadcaster DR.

VRT in Belgium has picked up season one of the series, while NPB in the Netherlands will air season one and two (both 10×58′).

Meanwhile, talks are ongoing to send the drama into Latin America and Spain. It has previously been picked up by networks including BBC4 in the UK, Link in the US, Arte in France and Germany, RUV in Iceland, SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway and YLE in Finland.

DR is now in production on season three of the show, about the political and personal life of a female Danish prime minister, which is due to air domestically this fall.

Other scripted series being sold by DR here in Cannes include melodrama Happy Life (18×58′), about a woman who works for a company that sells anti-depressant pills; and youth drama Limbo (10×28′), which gives an insight into the lives of four 12-year-old children. It is produced in association with German broadcaster NDR, NRK, YLE and SVT.
