Tranter is leaving the position over the next few months to work in the UK indie scene, in a move first reported by UK trade mag Broadcast.

She joined BBCWW Productions in 2009 to help expand BBCWW’s scripted and unscripted slate in the US, following a spell as controller of BBC Fiction in the UK.

Tranter, who also oversaw the launch of Adjacent Productions in 2012 to create original productions, worked across genres, developing and producing scripted and unscripted programming for US cable and broadcast networks, as well as digital platforms.

During her time in LA she has worked on US versions of BBCWW formats including ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and History’s Top Gear.

She also produced Getting On and Criminal Justice for HBO, and worked on Da Vinci’s Demons for Starz, the first scripted original series developed and produced under the Adjacent Productions label.

BBCWW is also currently developing a US version of UK drama Luther with Fox, although the pilot for that show has been delayed due to casting issues.

Julie Gardner, who was the first hire by Tranter following her move to LA, is expected to take on day-to-day responsibilities in LA until a full-time replacement is appointed.

Prior to working for BBC Fiction, Tranter was controller of BBC Drama commissioning from 2000 to 2006 and before that worked as an exec producer on the BBC’s in-house shows.

Her exit from the US comes as BBC drama boss Ben Stephenson mulls his own move across the Atlantic.
