BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) has secured the first Spanish-language remake of cookery format The Great Bake Off, which has also been picked up in Bulgaria.

TV Azteca in Mexico and Nova in Bulgaria will produce their own versions of the format, which searches for the best amateur baker and puts contestants through a series of challenges to test their skills.

The 13×50′ Mexican version will premiere in early 2017 in a primetime slot. The Bulgarian show will be titled Bake Off: The Sweetest Competition (13×50′) and will debut in primetime slot later this year.

The format, created by Love Productions in the UK, has now been licensed to 23 countries, including Australia, France, Poland, South Africa, Brazil and Thailand.

Channel 4 in the UK recently poached the Great British Bake Off from the BBC, which has aired the show since it began in 2010 having helped turn it into a ratings smash hit.

BBCWW will retain finished programme and format rights to the show for a further 12 years despite the show’s shift to a different broadcaster.

Meanwhile, BBCWW will present a total of 16 new formats to international buyers at Mipcom next month. These include !mpossible, a quiz show from the co-creator of The Weakest Link; Stupid Man, Smart Phone; I Spy; and Fishing Impossible.
